Vista and Windows 7 Notes and Issues

Location of Programs in Version 6.4

Installation on the C: Drive
By default, the installers now create a "C:\xyAlgebra 6.4\" or "C:\xySolver 6.4\" or "C:\xyManager 6.4\" folder for the individual programs and their related files. Vista and Windows 7 users are urged to use the default location for all programs. Problems occurred when using the previous location in the "Program Files" folder. Users installing under Windows XP and earlier may continue the earlier practice by installing in similar sub-folders of the "C:\Program Files\" folder.

Network Installation Not Recommended For xyManager
Under Windows Vista, and probably under Windows 7, help files reportedly will not run on servers. Therefore, xyManager must be installed on a local (client) machine, NOT on a Vista or Windows 7 server.

Network Installation Not Tested For Student Programs
Similar issues may apply to student programs. Please test carefully before assuming that the xyAlgebra student programs run correctly, and save their student files correctly, if installed on a server under Windows Vista or Windows 7. It may be necessary to install the student programs on each client machine. The author regrets his inability to test network installation issues.

Warnings That Programs May Be Unsafe
Windows 7 particularly dislikes new programs lacking the Microsoft imprimatur.
